More than just a picture

Successful social media is more than just posting the odd picture to your feed now and again. To truly grow your network, it takes knowing what kind of image to choose to attract more like-minded followers, whilst creating meaningful content that resonates with your target audience which could potentially convince people to invest in you.

Wondering where to begin is not as daunting as you may think! Design Wellness has shared 5 easy-to-do top tips on re-focusing your social media posts, by giving you a foundation for a simple social media strategy.

Quality over quantity.

Everyone knows a person on Facebook who posts 24/7. Even if your best friend were to spam your news feed, you’d probably feel like blocking them after a while! Your business works in the same way – ideally, you want to post once or twice a week. This way you still connect with your network of followers to keep you in their consciousness and you’re not constantly vying for their attention, which can sometimes annoy people by appearing too try-hard!

Just be yourself.

Just because you have a digital presence doesn’t mean you need to be a robot! You are at the very core of your business. What you’re really trying to get across to your target audience (other than what you offer) is who you are and your personality. You can do this by refining your “Brand Voice,” making sure each post has that personal touch unique to you – it could be an image of a mindful moment you’ve had, or take a wellness quote and voice your own reflection of it.

Seek true & honest connections with people.

The focus of your social media presence shouldn’t just be seeking more followers – it should also be about creating a support network within your followers. Comment on other people’s posts with advice if they talk of their struggles. Open up further discussions with people who have commented on your posts – you can build relationships digitally; having connections like these will prove to the online community that you care as much online as you do in person. When people trust you, they may reach out to you further for help.

Identify your audience.

Start out by looking through your followers and grouping the type of people who are following you. Do some of these followers all have anything in common? Are any of your posts getting more likes than others? When you start to answer these questions you should get a real feel for your following.

Mix it up.

Posting too frequently can be bad, but so is displaying the same generic content. If you are constantly throwing wellness quotes into the void of Instagram, people may start to notice this trend and pay you less attention! Using a social media scheduler (we recommend Later) enables you to plan ahead with your posts. This allows you to look at the bigger picture by drip-feeding new and interesting content regularly to your followers.

Social media can be a tricky landscape to traverse, but by trying out some of the simple points we’ve provided, you can re-focus your social media to what matters. Create more than a following, start to build a valuable and fulfilled network within it.
